And he had an army of volunteers drawn to a charisma that hid any real substance.
And then he had the great good fortune of having the Republicans select one of the most inept candidates for the presidency since Bob Dole. And then John McCain did something crazy. He picked Sarah Palin, an unknown female governor from the very distant state of Alaska. It was a ticket that was reminiscent of 1984's Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro and they went down to defeat.
The mainstream political media fell in love with him. It was a school girl crush with febrile commentators like Chris Mathews swooning then and now over the man. The venom directed against McCain and, in particular, Palin, was extraordinary.
Now, nearly a full year into his first term, all of those gilded years
leading up to the White House have left him unprepared to be President. Left to his own instincts, he has a talent for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. It swiftly became a joke that he could not deliver even the briefest of statements without the ever-present Tele-Prompters.
Far worse, however, is his capacity to want to "wish away" some terrible realities, not the least of which is the Islamist intention to destroy America and enslave the West. Any student of history knows how swiftly Islam initially spread. It knocked on the doors of Europe, having gained a foothold in Spain.
The great crowds that greeted him at home or on his campaign "world tour" were no substitute for having even the slightest grasp of history and the reality of a world filled with really bad people with really bad intentions.
Oddly and perhaps even inevitably, his political experience, a cakewalk, has positioned him to destroy the Democrat Party's hold on power in Congress because in the end it was never about the Party. It was always about his communist ideology, learned at an early age from family, mentors, college professors, and extreme leftist friends and colleagues.
Obama is a man who could deliver a snap judgment about a Boston police officer who arrested an "obstreperous" Harvard professor-friend, but would warn Americans against "jumping to conclusions" about a mass murderer at Fort Hood who shouted "Allah Akbar." He has since compounded this by calling the Christmas bomber "an isolated extremist" only to have to admit a day or two later that he was part of an al Qaeda plot.
He is a man who could strive to close down our detention facility at Guantanamo even though those released were known to have returned to the battlefield against America. He could even instruct his Attorney General to afford the perpetrator of 9/11 a civil trial when no one else would ever even consider such an obscenity. And he is a man who could wait three days before having anything to say about the perpetrator of yet another terrorist attack on Americans and then have to elaborate on his remarks the following day because his first statement was so lame.
The pattern repeats itself. He either blames any problem on the Bush Administration or he naively seeks to wish away the truth.

Very important information has just been made public that I think is something you should all be aware of: The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim. It's pronounced "Gonna re-elect 'im."The disease is contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior involving putting your cranium up your rectum. Many victims contracted it in 2008 but now, most people after having been infected or the past 1-2 years, are starting to realize how destructive this sickness is. It's sad because it is so easily cured with a new procedure just coming on the market called Vo-tem-out! I gotta tell ya that I am pretty peaved about this whole thing.... I have been a registered republican for most of my life. I have watched for the last ten years or so as my family both immediate and extended have been watching their jobs go overseas and their health care bills skyrocket. I am a professional cabinet builder and cannot afford much with kids and a wife and home. Just this past year I watched as my companies health care plans were redone several times and this last time my family payment overtook my house payment!! I also watched as every time my company changed course with healthcare my kids and my wife had to be put thru undue stress wondering if their pre-existing conditions were gonna be covered. Hell my youngest daughter had a tough childhood and got a bad ear infection when she was little. This past month she got a cold and had to go to the doctor and the insurance company is declining to pay the damn bill citing pre existing conditions!! The same time all these insurance companies are posting record profits!!! WHat the hell america? I watched the elections very carefully this time around as I always do and I gotta tell ya that when it came to ideas and plans to fix healthcare John Mccain had nothing to say!! He also could not even hold a candle to his rival in any of the debates...Don't even get me started about Sarah Palin.... All he said that he would do was to give us a tax break for insurance so we could pay for it easier.... is that the republicans answer here? This is a serious problem in this country... a large part of our fiscal problems stem from the fact that employers can no longer afford to help pay for their employees insurance needs and got forbid you gotta source your insurance on your own!! The healthcare industry is completely messed up. You cannot afford to be really sick in this country today. And guess what, it is only gonna get worse.... I just hope all you guys that are berating Obama and his attempts to pull this country out of the financial black hole we were in are happy when a new health care system gets shot down and you are stuck paying incredible amounts of money for your health care insurance and when you get really sick they just drop your coverage!! We are where we are now because of a great many factors, too many people getting loans that they could never afford, too many bankers giving loans to people who should never have gotten them. Too many companies selling out production of products in this country to overseas to save a few bucks, We don't make things in this country anymore.... This country became great because of not only our freedom principles but because at one time we were the industrial and intellectual leaders of the world... we built the best of whatever you wanted to talk about and if we did not we found out why and fixed it.... Companies in this country used to give a crap about their employees. If you worked for a company for any number of years and showed that you cared you would be rewarded with a long time employment, benefits, and other appreciations that companies forgot about nowadays. Now a company will just drop employees at the drop of a hat just to make the bottom line look good for their shareholders. I have heard people say that nobody cares about their work today. Well no wonder!! If you treat people like cattle you cannot expect them to work hard for you.... We have to find ways to bring production back into this country and no we do not have to compete with china to do it.... We have to pay our employees better so that they can afford to buy the things they want and need so that the economy will improve as will the lifestyles of the middle class. What the hell does ANY Ceo need multi million dollar bonuses for? These people already have more money than they could ever want.... We need to FIX THIS HEALTH CARE SYSTEM in this country so that people can get the care they need. If you want to call that socialism then I guess I did not make myself clear here... I do not want anything given to me that I do not work for, I do not wish to be given any handouts, I just want to know that when my kid gets sick I do not have to worry about losing everything I have to make them better.... I pray that none of you ever have to deal with a sick loved one and find out that your insurance that you had been paying regularly decided to drop your coverage...
This country was is such a bad position both economically and politically before this past election that it would not matter who was elected they would have a helluva road ahead. NO matter who it was they would need to be spending large amounts of money to fix these huge problems. This whole buyout and economy stimulus thing was actually started during the end of the bush presidency and even he knew it was gonna have to happen. Now everyone wants to lay it all on the current presidents lap.... Whatever america,,,, What would you do to fix it? I know from watching the republicans they sure as hell have no clue.. And as I said before I am a registered republican. The problems before this country today are HUGE and wether you like it or not it is gonna take MONEY to fix a lot of them. I think that we need to first get a handle on the health care system because it is choking many americans in more ways than one....You only need to watch the commercials against health care reform and see the huge airtime and sponsorship to see that there are way too many people making way too much money with the status quo. They do not want it fixed because it will mean less money in their pockets... There has not been a bill passed in the US government in the last ten years that did not have a ton of bullshit pork barrel spending attatched to it by greedy politicians who are looking out for thier own interests....

I don't think he had any daggers. Maybe some inner conflict manifesting some degree of disdain in the guys direction though. If he is hearing anything the guy is saying then at some level he knows he is worsening the problem and that alone will make a guy testy.
I think he has not had to deal with reality in such a real world way before. He has and still is surrounded by yes men and agenda driven people. Being president has surely opened his point of view but he can't just change who he is. Can't change for many reasons least of which is pride.
He seems to be listening to the guy whereas Biden already knows and never cared. O Bama has his values> Biden has nothing and never did.
Right now I think O Bama is trying to find some middle ground to make everyone happy and maybe because in the big game that he is in now he realizes that socialism just can't work and people are not quite as sheeple as he thought. What to do? Save your ass! When you can't win you compromise from any position of strength you have.

It has been eight months since he has had an actual news conference. That is his "Don't ask, don't tell policy. The news media may be getting tired of, "ask Mr. Gibbs, I am off limits".
Rick the problem for the health care is who pays for it? The insurance industry makes a profit, your company make a profit, Do you expect the companies to pay for everything? Do you expect me to pay for your health care as well as paying for my own?
The oil industry made teriffic profits, maybe they should pay for your health care.
There is so much abuse, fraud and waste within the health care industry. South Florida is the hub for store front "health care" businesses which just generate paperwork then bill the insurance companies or the government for services not performed. They take the money then clsoe up shop.
When there are questions of proceedures, the insurance companies have been burned far too many times and deny coverage. Those respnsible for fraud and abuse are rarely caught and when caugt treated as white collar criminals and given a slap on the wrist.
