In Alabama it's 16 BUT you have to be under 20. If you are over 20 it's 18.
It's supposed to be a "gap" type of law to stop it being legal one day and illegal the next.
It sometimes causes problems, and if you look online the age of consent says "16" for Alabama, but they do not make the gap notation. I understand that it causes problems from time to time with lack of clarity.
This information comes from someone that I know that is a probation officer.
