This is my sons Formula. I will post pics as soon as I can. It’s an automatic, red, and it runs. Brakes are horrible and it’s got a huge exhaust leak. It’s being sold as a parts car. The body is pretty clean, no rust, interior is decent except for the torn up seats. I have a clean California title and it’s on Non-op status so no DMV backfees. It has aftermarket 16” rims with brand new tires. My kid wants $400 cash firm *the car pushes coolant ito the overflow jar then begins to run hot despite the cooling fan being on. I’m thinking it’s got a blown head gasket or a cracked head*
I am moving this weekend and I have no space for it.. I got 2 ‘88 GT’s already. I can’t believe it’s still in my possession, it runs for Pete’s sake. When I was looking for a second Fiero I would have killled for a real Formula in this running state and price, LOL
There is a game changer.. it has what I believe is a bad head gasket or cracked head. I talked to my son, he stopped driving it because it was pushing coolant out the coolant bottle as it gets warm, and eventually starts to run hot even though fan was on. That’s right after it lost the heater core and apparently it overheated. I changed the t-stat, rad cap, bleed bleed bleed, no luck. It would have been nice to know that before I posted , is it even worth $400??. It would deter me, my old back can’t take that. It’s a lotta work, still a parts car though. Mrfiero gets first stab if he still wants it, I would not be upset if he passes on it.

Is there coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant? Is it leaking from the motor? If not, it sounds more like you have an issue with the cooling system not a head gasket. It might be as simple as it needs to be properly "burped" . If not done properly, a trapped air bubble will cause the car to run hot/overheat because the coolant isn't circulating. Also the wrong radiator cap(s) will cause issues too. Both are very easy fixes that cost nothing (BURP!) to $15 for 2 new correct caps. Another thing to check would be the coolant tubes running under the rocker panels/ doors. Check them to make sure they weren't crushed by a jack. Not as easy or cheep to fix but better than a head. And assuming it's nothing major, I agree with the previous post, you're not asking enough and if I was closer I'd be checking these things in my driveway!
