The engine and transmission:
The original 2.8 engine was replaced at 122,786 miles. I purchased 1992 a 1989 3.1 Fiero engine, still mounted to the assembly line pallet the was surplus when the car was discontinued
from American Dismantlers in Detroit, MI. This firm purchased all remaining Fiero parts, engines, transmissions, etc after the cars were discontinued. They had only four engines left at that time.
The displacement of the engine was verified by the part number on the crank shaft and pistons. Other changes were a different throttle body (I haven’t used), solenoid operated EGR system (see later notes), different style Throttle Position Switch), fuel rail with no place for a cold start injector (1989, the cold start injector was discontinued and the lower intake had a soft plug in the hole). The newer type oil pressure sender unit was on the engine.
Before installing this new engine, I sent it to Mike Myers Racing Engines, Marrero, LA to be blue printed. The heads were ported, polished, and intake and exhaust ground out to gasket size. Slithered-Bronze valve guides installed. S/S valves. Crane push rods, valve springs, and tappets. Crane Gold series cast aluminum 1.5 roller rocker arms. High temp valve stem keepers and seals. All the valve train was blue printed. A matching Crane cam along with new bearings and seals. The engine was balanced. It has the internal balanced crankshaft. A Darrell Morse over-bore throttle body was installed. S/S fuel lines to braided lines and a fuel pressure gage installed. Rodney Dickman S/S vacuum lines installed and powder coated metallic blue. A new air filter, and the air filter container powder coated red and the cap silver. A new seal was placed in the top of the container and in the bottom. The water trap was removed as well as the throttle body water lines. The throttle position switch replaced as well as the idle air control valve. A new EGR solenoid added, fuel vapor filter cannister, and brake servo filter as well. The oil pump was blue printed. The oil pan chromed. The A/C bracket chromed. The water pump and alternator pulleys chromed. A Rodney Dickman Idler Pulley Kit installed and respective belts. A Rodney Dickman alternator bracket reinforcement plate added to the alternator bracket. The alternator bracket is Jet Hot coated. The engine support bracket is chromed. The top intake manifold was Jet Hot coated as well as the middle and lower manifolds. The upper manifold has Fiero cast into it. Fiero Store engine dress-up items are installed on the EGR, Oil Filler Cap, MAP sensor, and the water filler cap. The heat shields are ceramic coated. The engine has new rod and main bearings. New type of distributor and new cap and red spark plug wires. NKG spark plugs. Rodney Dickman tach filter. New V-6 control module. Rodney Dickman poly motor and transmission mounts. Rodney Dickman’s EGR tube and gaskets. Changed the SI alternator for the newer CS type using an adaptor plug and play cable (2017). Constructed a better oil filler tube.
Use only Mobil ONE 10-30 or 20-40 motor oil!

Transmission: Installed new filter, transmission shift-kit. Use only Mobil ONE synthetic transmission fluid!
Replaced the transmission pressure switch and transmission lock-up solenoid. Powder coated the transmission side cover, shifter shield and bracket, and fluid pan red.
Replaced both rear axles and C/V joints and their transmission seals

I have 7 plastic storage containers with new and used parts. I also have the original front fenders and quarter panels if one should want to revert back to original style. I have an extra dash (used) and center console if one would want them to be covered in a fabric or leather.
I have another set of Crane Gold Series cast aluminum roller rockers (1.6)
I have all the parts to convert the ECM to a GM 7730.
I have many boxes of Fiero screws, bolts, nuts, and washers and many other small items.
I have several front and rear scopes that could be installed should one would want to.
I have two power pulleys and adaptors. No belts though.
I have many extra new hoses.

Auto Data Collision Repair Manual

Since 2003, the car has been driven less than 750 miles a year. It has been garaged it’s entire life except for the 2.5 years when it was at Long Beach Naval Station and then it was covered. This car, for most of it’s life, has been in southern states (Virginia, Texas, California, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Louisiana).

There are more things I have done to the car but I can’t remember all of it. At 78, I am no longer able to take car of my GT so I hope I can find a new home that will continue taking care of this great and beautiful, now rare, car.
