No matching balls?

I apologize for possibly messing up your sale, but I don't believe it's a good idea to use a different ball with a used rocker. There will be accelerated wear and potential failure. Sorry for the bad news.

I know 3.1 guys have run these and some reused the stock 3.1 balls because they were in better shape with no negative effects. But maybe it's different 3.1 vs 2.8? I also remember that you need to check the guide plate clearance for rubbing.

I first worked on cars back in the early 70's... at that time, mostly big-block Chevys. It was a definite no-no to separate the stamped rocker from it's original fulcrum ball. That applied to any engine which used that style of rocker. The ball and rocker rub against each other and establish a unique matching wear pattern. The rule was to always use both components only with each other, or replace them both... never just one or the other. I don't see how a 2.8 or 3.1 would be any different than a small or big block Chevy in this regard.
