just use the stock housing that came with the car you will be glad you did when the weld fails.....

Wish you were making those plates when I did my thermostat housing. Would have saved me a trip to the machine shop and some money too.

This is what I did. I have many thousand miles on it with zero problems. Temp sits at a solid 180 degrees in the summer.
