Most Fiero door/trunk blanks won't fit Ignition or other way around or never work in each other depending on actual keys used for a year or even on a given car. I don't have data how many profiles GM uses over the years. May change profiles in "batches" of like X # of years. IOW most or all 84 models may have different profile then next year or later/early years.
In my car, the Ignition blank and lock has an extra groove to keep out door keys. But after replacing the I-lock w/ aftermarket lock a few years ago, the door key blank easily fits. (OE I-lock worn a lot causes problems that need replacing.)
Not sure what GM thinking had Doors separate from I-key. Maybe with 1 key for doors and trunk so can give kids etc to get crap in/out of car but can't drive w/o ignition key. Maybe was required to meet FMVSS or other rules at the time.
In your and other cases... may need 3+ blanks to work because maybe different year(s) and blank for 1 door etc unless you check both doors and trunk to take a key even if doesn't turn from mismatch tumblers.
Many years of GM cars had different locks w/ matching blanks for whatever setup GM used for a specific model. W/ most had 2 keys for different things.
Example: Many had doors and I-key on 1 key. While Truck and locking glove box on another key.
Not just GM but Ford and Chrysler had this setup too on some models. Maybe some cars still used this setup but I haven't see this in decades. (Last I remember is Early Chrysler mini vans had locking box under P-side seat. Many new cars only have key locks for Ignition and driver's door.)
Why?For safety/security/both Plus Unlike Fiero w/ Power Truck Release On 24/7 and in plain site for anyone to F with...
Many "Power"/Remote Trunk Release had the cabin control hidden in the locking glove box so valet etc can't get in the truck even having the I-key. ("power" because many were vacuum operated not electric.)
Was not like now where many back seats fold to get into the trunk. Not just SUV w/ that setup...
I change the power wire to work only w/ I-key On for safety/security reasons See my Cave,
