Looking to upgrade my dash. Was out measuring dashes all day. Must have measured the dashes of at least 150 cars. Came up with 4 candidates that qualified on the basis of not being wider than 54"; 17" from window and 15 inches high from the stock console.

I specifically checked the Pontiac G6, Camry, GrandAm and Grand Prix that I've read here are swap candidates BUT THEY WON'T EASILY FIT. All of them had attached radio consoles that would ride on top of the stock console or they were too deep from the windshield. .

The only GM car that met the measurements was the Cobalt. BUT I found 3 others that also qualify. SO I would like your opinion on which of the 4 dashes I've chosen here you like best. They all have roughly the same measurements so they should all fit. You can suggest another one but I'm getting it Sunday so best to keep to what's on your screen. Price is not important as Kenny UPull sells them all dashes for the same price.

PS I am not worried about gauges since I found out they sell GPS Speedometers that are literally plug and play!!!

Based on this which dash is your favorite?

Sorry to be an old fart, but I quite like the Fiero dash as it is!
Why change this '80s quirkiness for something else?
Just go buy a more modern car if you want a more modern dash😉

Just my opinion which is worth it's own weight of nothing at all!

Regards,
Rafe

I decided on the golf. Took about three hours to remove it. Got it for $100 CAD at Kenny UPull in Montreal Canada. Included the pass. airbag that I'll sell and the radio!. I'll start a topic about the swap when I start the install.

I guess I'm too late with my vote, but if you have to change it, then YES, keep it GM.

Will you be doing a custom center console along with the dash swap? I was always curious what other options could work in the smaller space of the Fiero.

I am sure that the final result will be pleasing but my choice would be the 90 Fiero prototype dash that is like the earlier dash but with a half moon (semi-circle) gauge console. If we could just change that one part of the dash the car would have a more modern look. Good luck with the install.

Thx everyone for your comments. I went with the Golf as the Chevy had a larger space around the steering column and I'm keeping that stock. I'll update you when I start the swap. I've already using a custom dash I got from West Coast Fieros a few years back so I'll be using that. Never intended to use the dash from the donor car.

Well here it is. Over 40 hours but everything works I kept the light controls and the Hvac system with no mods except for the ventilation system.

You don’t need to be a mechanic to attempt this. Just someone who has creativity and fabricating skills.

I now actually have a glove box

You do know the 84 Speedo has the "module" for Cruise and the divider/buffer for ECM?
And an aftermarket speedo doesn't?

Hi Orge

Yes I'm aware. I don't have cruise and I'm going to replace the ecm when I install my Holley Sniper 1100 this winter. What's odd however, as I've been running it without the speedometer and it's never run better. Go figure...

Looks nice enough, but looks like you will be slamming your knuckles on the radio when you shift into 1st, 3rd & 5th.
