For reasons of preventative maintenance I would like to replace the oil pump on my 4.9L engine but cannot seem to find that any are available. Was this part discontinued, was it ever made as an aftermarket replacement part? Are rebuild kits available? What do you 4.9L guys do if you need a replacement part?

I believe they are not made anymore. Have you taken yours apart by chance? It would be really difficult to mess one up honestly. I am rebuilding a 4.9 right now and looked at my oil pump and it looks brand new.

There are a few rebuild parts available but many of the main parts of the 4.9 have been discontinued. It's a pretty bullet proof engine fortunately. Might have to look at a pick n pull if you have to replace it.

Dennis, research this and see if it helps.

Thanks for the lead Charlie, but the item is not described correctly in the ad. That's a Northstar oil pump.

The pump develops full pressure but when I changed the oil it took a while to come up, like 10-15 seconds with a full oil filter. Although my engine is low mileage 61K I don't think that the owner changed the oil that often. Now on the second oil change since I've had it. On the first change, the old oil was black.. Now on the second change, the oil is clean. The leakdown rate is very low and well within the spec of a low mileage engine. I don't really need to change the pump but always like to err on the side of caution.
