I do not know where you are headed, but keep on going! Nothing more that I love than driving my GT.
I love driving this thing too. Passing large trucks in the rain (or any time for that matter) can be frightening. Knowing that you're the smallest thing rolling down the hwy can be a little unnerving as NOBODY sees you! My friend suggested one of those flags like we had on our go-carts when we were kids LOL.

Or you can turn your lights on when its raining or add high power LED daylight lamps so everybody can see you! Keep it rolling!!
2.8 with the 5spd, 70-75mph (occasional 80-85). Because of my fuel sending unit hitting a baffle, my gauge is not accurate. As such, I fill-up at 220 miles using the trip odo. as the gauge. Tomorrow I'm going to list the miles driven and total gallons to refill for all 6 stops.
Happy to report that my 1,600 mile (approx. round trip) drive in the 87 GT from the SF Bay Area to Phoenix, AZ went flawlessly. Because my fuel sending unit wasn't installed correctly (my assumption), I have to rely on the trip odometer to determine when it's time to fill the tank (gauge drops from full to half tank then stops). I usually refill at 220 miles and on this trip, we stopped a total of 8 times. Two adults and enough luggage to fill every inch of the trunk, and frunk. Before the trip, I replaced the plugs, cap/rotor/distributor, fuel filter, air filter, cleaned the PCV valve, changed the eng. oil, and replaced rear wheel bearings. Miles driven and gallons of fuel used are as follows:
238 miles, 7.8 gal. 30.5mpg
208 miles, 7.2 gal. 28.8mpg
232 miles, 7.2 gal. 32.2mpg
142 miles, 5.4 gal. 26.3mpg
139 miles, 4.3 gal. 32.3mpg
208 miles, 7.4 gal. 28.1mpg
239 miles, 7.9 gal. 30.2mpg
220 miles, 7.4 gal. 29.7mpg
We took turns driving and we usually had the cruise set between 70-80mph, depending on the road conditions. Hit a lot of rain and it was heavy at times. The speed limit through the desert is 75mph in some places. Transmission is a 5spd, and at 80mph on level hwy, the engine is only turning at 2500-2800rpm (assuming my tach. is accurate lol). Very pleased with my little car. Now it's time to give it a bath..poor thing is filthy!
