I've was able to buy the several sizes of conduit needed to redo the harness, and the 3M flame-retardant electrical tape but struck out on the gray tape that runs closest to the exhaust manifold, some kind of heat resistant material. It wraps around a good length of the conduit itself. What have folks used that seems to hold up over the years?

I can't vouch as to the long-term durability, but it feels like high quality stuff. It has fibers in it which make it hard to tear. I can only cut the tape with good quality seamstress scissors.

It is best to wrap the tape with the loom following the "installed path", but the tape will allow for some wire loom flex after installation.

For large-diameter loom, I wrap it in a spiral fashion. For small diameter loom (TPS/IAC and cluster temp sender), I apply the tape lengthwise on the loom.

Thanks for the recommendation. I see there are 15' and 30' rolls ... do you think 15' would be enough to do one harness?

15' should be enough to do the portion that's visible in my picture, provided that you don't make too many mistakes. It should be enough to also do the wire bundle that's on the firewall as well. The mileage you get also depends on the overlap you do while doing your spirals... I think 50% overlap would be OK.

I don't exactly have the hang of applying this tape, so sometimes I wasn't happy with the result (wrinkles). In those cases, I unpeeled the tape, threw it away, and started over. I went through a roll of 30', but that included many mistakes, and my modified Fiero has more wiring that's covered in heat tape than stock.

I'll be on the lookout for wrinkles. BTW that is an amazing looking engine and cradle. Well done!
