I've been slowly getting my (new to me) 88 coupe checked out. Seems like my windshield gets a tad steamy going down the road. I guess the heater core is going bad. I'm thinking of just bypassing it for now. Any ideas on this ? How hard is it to change ?

You have been on PFF since 2004 and you have not read posts about heater core replacement? Patrick has a very good one.

Do you have any coolant drops on the bottom of the heater core housing?

Gall, a picture of mine was used in it, but it might be the thread started by RWDPLZ that you're thinking of.

Fiero Heater Core Replacement

[EDIT] It's too bad that Jazzman sacrificed this thread, A/C Heater Core Repair Procedure during his tumultuous "exit" from the forum. I had posted a bunch of good photos in that thread regarding heater core replacement. Yes, my posts (including photos) are still there on pages 2 & 3, but the thread itself was trashed.

When I replaced my heater core (87GT -AC car) , I just got underneath the dash removed the black cover (IIRC 4 screws) , cut off the hoses in the front compartment and the heater core pulled right out. It was simple. No removal of other components was necessary.

There's a slight difference in the procedure depending on whether it's an A/C or non-A/C Fiero. I've done both (years ago) and if I recall, one or the other was a bit more involved. To be clear though, neither is difficult.

Heh heh, I found This somewhat relevant thread from 1999... and believe it or not, The Ogre demonstrates a sense of humor!

I just replaced my heater core- 86 2M6 Without AC, I’m not a mechanic, and it was easy. I got my heater core from Rockauto (they are awesome) and I found a short vid on YouTube just search heater core replacement Fiero and the guy shows how easy it is.
