I am 18 years old and I am loving my fiero project car expect I have come to a bit of a speed bump. It is time to paint my beloved 1987 Fiero GT and I wont lie I am pretty nervous about the prep work and the paint as I don't know much about body work. I did some searching on the forum but I am still left with some unanswered questions. I will be doing all the prep work myself for the car and my neighbor who is a automotive painter will be painting the car in my garage. He painted my dads 1979 firebird and did a fantastic job on it. so now you know a little about my situation here are my questions:

1. Do I use an adhesion promoter rather than or with a primer?

The bumper of my firebird is enduroflex which I believe is the same materials as doors and bumps on the fiero, and my painter told me just to sand down the bumper and use just a plastic adhesion promoter but I am not sure if that is the same case here.

2. Is there an specific primers or paint I need? I will be supplying all the materials and I would like to know what is best.

3. What do I use to fill chunks in? I got some chunks missing out of the roof by my sun roof and not sure is plain old Bondo will do the trick.

I know this won't be a perfect paint job by any means but i just want to drive the wheels off car and enjoy it as the original owner barley drove the car. The previous owner also ruined the factory paint with 3-5 coats of regular spray paint and I been busting my tale to try and sand it all off. Here are some pictures of the car, i am currently trying to get it down to factory paint and then i will wet sand it with 400 grit.

You need to consult your painter. I would think that 400 is overkill and a lot of work for nothing. 'Plain old Bondo' will not do the trick. There is SMC filler available that will.

I would also remove the black trim around the middle of the car, you will get a better pain job if the painter doesn't have to work around it.
