OEM uses short stems, ~ 1" to 1.5" exposed, for most things they make depending on the wheel.
Many to most shops replace all rubber stems as part of replacing tires because don't want leak problems w/ dirt/rust/etc in the stem holes.
Most will install short stems for most cars and light trucks. Longer only went the run out of short ones because too easy to bend or break.
DIY Can get them @ many parts stores like many independence and NAPA franchises stores have them.
Big air chuck like below used w/ heavy trucks often have problems w/ many rims for cars and light trucks.
Many have better results from these types w/ or w/o air gauges etc attach to them.
(Milton S-698 is hold-on version for S-699)
Note that Air chucks and gauges tips can wear out. They get beat up hitting a valve stem and won't seal. Even w/o regular use, the tip seal can "rot" from dirt, oil contamination, etc, and won't seal. Treat them as consumable items and replace when you have problems. HD Lowes and many more have have them and many are < $5
