Anyone know what's the good upgrade size for 15 In front / rear tires that can be mounted on an 88 stock suspension without looking like a 4 wheel truck- lol
I know the 15's in are getting hard to find but I do love my stock wheels especially after they ve been powder coated - If not does a 17x7 front 38mm offset stick out on stock suspension? Just in case I may have an aftermarket wheel in mind -- Thx all . .
Going up 1 size to 215 front and 225 rear fills the fenderwells nicely. Since the 88 front wheels were narrower than prior years, the 7 inch wide wheel might stand out a bit even with the 38mm offset.
I would think that 50 series would open the wheel wells more. Especially on the stock rims. Wider profile tires on the narrower front rims will cause the sidewalls to bulge and depending upon the width, may not provide a good bead seal.
I made up my mind to stick with 60's and not to say the 50's are limited on the 15's --- I like this calculator - Also I found this great site where you punch in your vehicle and it will match you with the appropriate range sizes you can use --- https://tiresize.com/tires/Pontiac/Fiero/1988/GT/
When I get it all done, I ll post a PIC ... Thanks Everyone
When changing tires to a different size always check out the total diameter so that you don't lose the speedometer calibration. With later OBDII cars that interface with the PCM; they can be edited for different tire sizes. Fiero ECMS do not have a tire size setting. The speedometer is powered directly by the tans speed sensor.
I went to 16 x 7 wheels- Voxx Monzas which are a better looking version of the GT "Lace" style wheels....Sadly, Voxx does not make it anymore. 38 mm offset...with 205/55-16 and 225/55-16 they look very good and fill the wheel wells perfectly- still have enough sidewall so your tires aren't stripped off the rim by running over a large ant. (My Fiero is a 85 SE with an 88 rear subframe/suspension) I picked these two sizes because there were a number of popular cars produced using these sizes so most companies produce these sizes in multiple performance versions...Including All-season high performance- My next set will be General G-Max AS-05s which are very light- Previously I have owned the predecessor, the AS-03s which were very good.
I have a getrag Fiero 5 spd and the speedo, with the slightly larger diameter tires, is exactly accurate.....
ASA AR1s have a similar look and the same offset....Tire rack does not show them in 16 x 7 for the Fiero but I went to the company website and it shows them in 16 x 7 with 5 on 100 lug pattern and 38 mm offset. Call the Tire rack and ask them, then if no luck call the company direct.
I am using DRAG DR44 s to reproduce the stock look. They are 45mm offset i believe 17x7.5 . they stick out 11mm farther in the front and tuck in 8mm in the rear. I put 215 45 17 in front and they tuck along with the fenderline and look great. I use a 5mm hubcentric spacer in the rear and run 235 45 17s in the rear. That puts them 3mm from stock, which looks great with a fat tire. the diameters are within 2% of stock. Took alot of work to get to this config. https://www.amazon.com/Drag...x114-3/dp/B01ASAM7ZC
Slight delay as my Fr**** passenger rear strut bumper stop cracked and it was not even 2 yr old - Now I have to remove the strut assembly and reinstall a new KYB kit - Never ends one thing after another but it keeps me away from trouble.. LOL
