So im working on putting a shorter belt on my 3800. The tensioner on the coolant tube housing the bolt seems to keep wanting to turn when i release tension to put belt on.this is my second tensioner cause the first one did this too. Any tips to keep from stripping maybe locktite?

That held only for a second. Am i only one that has issues with this? Trying to get a third tensioner today. Maybe ill try a small pry bar to move the tensioner instead of using the bolt

sorry man, I've been reading this post but haven't had this issue.
I know that the s/c one reverse threaded but the alternator bracket should just be normal.

I've changed that pulley and removed the belt countless times on 5-6 engines. Never an issue

If the threads are stripped, try a thread repair kit. Just make sure that you order one for the proper thread size. You remove the bolt, use the proper size drill, then use the supplied tap to cut new threads and you install a spring like insert with the special tool. The result are threads stronger than the original one. Helicoil invented the process but today kits are available for $10-$12 on eBay that work just as well.

Is the problem with the loose bolt on the block side when the tensioner bracket attaches?. If so the threads in the hole where the mounting bolt screws in, sound like they are stripped out.

If you can slide the belt over the pulleys with the tensioner all the way in, the tension should not be too much. A serpentine belt is flat ,not tapered like a V belt. It must be very tight or it will slip. If it slips the belt won't last long.
