Hello,

Just picked up a Fiero ( 2.8V6 4spd) and wanted to drop in 3.1 from a 2001 Malibu. I read another thread about the 3.1 from a regal, just wondering if anybody has tried with the newer motor?

That motor was called the LG8, and was the last of the 3.1 engines built. Do you want to use the short block or the whole thing?

Whole thing, or is it better to use specific parts?

Building a ChumpCar, so trying to balance hp increase (more torque the better) with points to compete (otherwise I'd like an LS motor in it)

There's also the 3.4L out of the grand-am/Alero/several others.

Plenty of people have done the swap. It bolts right in with stock mounts, other than the dog bone. You'll need a neutral-balanced flywheel for a manual trans, either from a later Fiero or one of many 4 and 6-cylinders thereafter. Plumbing is a bit different. And you need to run a reprogrammed ECM and set up the wiring harness.

There are a few threads on here regarding the swap. If you can't find any for the "3100" engine, look for ones for the "3400" engine. Basically the same engine.
