Hey folks, I've got an '84 Indy Fiero with an iron duke, ported and polished, headers and dual exhaust, along with an upgraded throttle body(I think a Holley). I got it just the way it is. I have treated the fuel and replaced the fuel filter, air filter, cleaned the engine, flushed the coolant and ran it every chance I've had. It now runs much better than it did when I got her. However, now that it runs and stays running, it doesn't overheat, and I can give her gas without stalling out, I'm focusing on how well she's running.
.
. She is dumping gas, in my opinion. Burning rich and not pulling in much air. Also, if I give her gas while I'm at the engine compartment, I have on more than one occasion, witnessed flames shoot out from the throttle body. while impressive, it also worries me. Thoughts on where I should look?

I do not have a ready suggestion on the rich cause, but I am pretty sure that the backfiring has toasted the MAT sensor. It is open to the intake path, and will get damaged from such abuse.

re-set the timing making sure the ALDL has been jumped to cancel the computer operation (diagnostic mode).
