Is the fuel level sender compatible with OBD2. I am not getting anything. Any fixes?

Thanks, car54

The fuel gage sending unit does not interface the PCM. No changes to the Fiero fuel tank wiring harness are needed when performing the swap.

So what you are saying is that the sender unit is not working, correct? And by changing that it should work properly?

Thanks car54

Unplug the C502 connector leading to the tank. There are three wires on the tank connector. Tan/White is power to the pump. Pink is the gauge wire. Black is ground. With the connector that runs to the body harness (not the one that runs to the tank), with the key on (engine off) short the pink wire to the black wire while someone looks at the gauge. The fuel gauge should move to E. If this fails then you have a trouble with the gauge or the wiring. If this passes then look at the tank sender.

If you know how to use an ohm meter, you can check the sender in the tank before you drop the tank. On the connector that leads to the tank measure the resistance between the pink wire and the black wire. A correctly working sender will give you a reading between zero (empty) and 90 ohms (full).

It does drop down to zero and when I remove the wires it goes to full. With the ignition off it reads 1/2 full, should it go down to zero? I just assumed it was not working because it did not go down the zero.

Thanks for your reply, car 54

Fiero gauges in 86 will float around with the ignition off. Maybe there is nothing wrong.

The Fiero gauges are air core gauges. That is rather than use an electromagnet against a spring, the Fiero gauge uses an electromagnet against an electromagnet. It's better because the spring over time loses tension but the electromagnet does not. It does however produce gauges that don't return to zero with the power off. People tend to complain about gauges that don't sit at zero with the power off and air core gauges are no longer being used.

What the Fiero gauges do with the power off has no meaning.

Your test indicates the sending unit in the tank is what is at fault. My recommendation is to use this aftermarket ($30) replacement rather than trying to fix the origional or spending ten times the amount for a factory replacement.
