Hey guys, I'm an owner of a 1985 Pontiac Fiero Gt which currently has a broken transmission in it.... Anyways, ive been having trouble finding a used tranny to put in it. Does anyone have, know someone who has, or could anyone help me find a Muncie 4 speed to replace my broken one?
I wish you were closer. I have a 4 speed out of an 84 that I would give you. It is the granny low version. Anyway I don't need it and would like to see someone use it.

Is the "granny low version" the one without the webbing on the case?

Thanks, but I'm looking for a 4 speed out of the 85+ cause the 84s had the Isuzu not the Muncie and I prefer the Muncie for better dependability
You've got your facts a little backwards. They used muncies from 84 til mid 86, all 4 spds. However in 84 they got weaker cases, but 4:10 gears in the se models. The Isuzu was a 5spd, available on the base models 85+

Exactly right. The 85 and 86 Muncie is the one with the stronger, webbed case. (Isuzus were 5 speeds, used with 4 cylinders, that became available in 85.)

There is a four speed Muncie for sale in the Mall at this time and it has a very reasonable price.
Alright, thanks guys, I've heard a lot of people say different things about the transmissions in these cars
Most people dont know what they are talking about when they talk about Fieros, even people who claim to work on them, or built them for GM. Best to verify it here on the forum

To complicate things, there where also two different 4speeds. So you're half right that the 84 was geared taller, the 85 my17 was shorter final and is always wound up on the highway. I think that's where you're looking for the webbing on the casting. The latter casting is stronger on the my17 Muncie. What's broke on yours?
