Clean up the surface where the cap mounts. I had some surface rust that caused new cap to leak.

Leaking in middle mostly means the cap is bad because The rivet that holds the rubber etc is likely the problem.
Leaking at edge could be cap problem or very likely problems w/ Tstat housing.

I only use Stant caps. I have problems using other brands. Recent Example, Some "Store Brand" are made by MotoRad. MotoRad looks ok but I had fitment issue w/ their Tstat caps on 87 L4.

Stop into a local parts store and buy one there. Ship the other one back.

Wow... Very few Stant caps have problems.
I still won't trust Levrvent types but all others are good to me and been use them for many Many years. (Levrvent can wears out the seal area for lever part for DIY open the system often. Bigger problem when cars didn't use reserve tank.)

Order online then check Email for invoice too.

MotoRad parts for store band label still use same number stamped into the top but often use different SKU etc. AZ Oriely etc use then under different names. PN on the package could be different.
You can try them but I had no luck using Tstat cover. There are small difference in housing... At least 2 versions just for L4 "duke" engines.
