I have an 85 SE with a lot of questionable wiring. The horns don't work, and I doubt the horn relay is good, even if it's there.

I'm just going to do the easy method - new horns, new relays -simple stuff.

My question is: how to identify the horn button wire in the harness coming out of the steering column? I know that the horn switch is on the negative side of the circuit (one wire to horn button which closes the circuit to ground); I just am not sure what color to look for. The steering wheel is aftermarket (Grant) and has a black wire.

Any help on tracing this wire would be much appreciated!

Looking at the 87 service manual, looks like orange, or dark green

Just Use a light or meter and connect at relay and 12v...

Black wire is over N on HORN label next to the "latch"

Good Horn button then light go on or Meter sees car volts, 12-15v.

12v terminal is there too but easy to short that for many DIY. You hit the button when shorted and you fly the fuse and/or fry the switch.
12v orange wire over OR in HORN.

Jump H to OR terminals to blow the horn.
