I recently added helper springs to my rear Koni coilovers (88) during the process of putting one of the struts back together I had some trouble getting the piston rod back up inside the rubber bushing. As I worked the piston up from underneath, I also pulled (gently I thought) up on the adjuster tab with a pair of pliers. I got it all back together fine, but when I went to check the adjustment of the strut, the adjuster just spins now. There doesn't seam to be a stop anymore in either direction. So... Am I missing something, or have I screwed my strut up somehow?

I can't see how pulling upward on the tab could damage it that badly?
If the j hook is broke, the shaft should be loose and probably come right out.
