I was reassembling my gauge console after installing a tach. I purchased off ebay, when I heard this "SNAP-TWANG" sound and thought, hmmm wonder what that was?
Well my console had drooped and was resting on my steering column, some plastic cracked off when I adjusted my tilt steering.

Has anyone seen this happen or know what could cause this?

I found this parts view in the 88 shop manual, I'm guessing it might be the part with the red arrow.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
