Don't recall exactly how I did remove it but it is the engine side if the same as the 86. If I remember I will look tomorrow.

remove the lid, remove the filter, unplug the air temp sensor, and lift out the air cleaner housing. The bottom of the housing is mounted seperately and does not need to come out.

Awesome, glad you were able to get it apart. Make sure you cap the larger hole. It was part of the PCV system, prior to the recall. The smaller vacuum hose is just the bleed-off for the EGR solenoid.

Keep in mind, this air filter set-up works from the inside, out. So any holes in the metal housing allows unfiltered air into the intake.
