I'll be the first one to admit that I dont know much about automatic transmissions (or manual ones for that matter), but I"ve read that the locking and unlocking of the torque converter can feel like the trans shifting.

I was wondering at what speeds does the trans actually shift and where is the torque converter locking and unlocking?

I'm just trying to know a little more bout what the car is doing as I'm driving it.

Seems like I'm getting into 3rd around 40 but I don't know. Really I'm just kinda clueless HA!.

Depending on throttle position and load, the 1-2 shift will occur around 15mph and the 2-3 shift around 25mph. The torque converter clutch will engage around 35-50 mph, depending on load, with the engine at operating temp.

Hmmmm.... I do only city driving and it seems like around 42 mph I either get a super smooth shift or an almost jolt.

Also I've only had the car up to 75, but there are no more shifts after the torque converter engages around 40?

correct...

It's set up to run at 55 mph....not 75. The 4 speed automatic is a popular swap for that reason.
