I am trying to remove my auto shifter knob on my 87 gt.

I read the post on here about removing the horse staple on the back of the shifter.

I have done that and am trying to pull it off

There seems to be sort of the same type of thing under the black button, there is a smaller staple. I pull on the staple but it wont come out like the first one did. It seems to control the button when you press it in.

IS this what I am suppose to be doing?

Am I doing something wrong?

All I did when I removed my shifter knob was the large pin. Mine just needed a little convincing (a swift smack up on both sides) I would not remove the smaller pin unless you plan on reupholstering the knob because that staple is clamped on the other side. I hope this helps.

Once you remove clip #10 the knob should come off. You may need to give it a whack to jar it loose.

Yup, it pulls right up, once the clip in front is removed. Get something to tap on it from the underside.

I used a round handled ratchets handle and tapped it a few times under opposite sides alternately and it popped right up.
