What does it take to swap a G6 engine into a 1986 GT stock automatic? What is the best year to use?
Has anyone done it?
What are the unexpected surprises?

Did a 3900 auto swap last year and am finishing up a 3900/F40 now and only real problem is the size of the intake making things a little tight in some spots

I *think* a LX9 3500 with the automatic would be straightforward, no?

The 7730 should have no issues running them together.

They're all pretty straightforward at this point. The 3.6 might be the most difficult, especially if you want a manual. But bmwguru is nearly finished with his 2.8 high feature swap, which is the same engine family.
