Does anyone else have an issue with the two wire harnesses, going down to the alt. & trans, in the way when trying to time the 2.8L?
I've tried to move them out of the way when timing, but I still don't have a great view of the timing pointer.
I had the engine out before I first got it running to swap out the auto. trans.

Could I have routed the wire harnesses incorrectly, to be in the way for timing? It didn't appear to be any other way.
Do the '88 strut towers create less space for a good view, than the '84-'87 cars?
Is it just something I need to make the best of?

Take a picture... show us!

I have absolutely no difficulty seeing what I need to see when timing my '88 Formula.

Its possible the exact position of the harness might vary slightly from car to car, just enough to block the view.

On mine, I could see the timing tab but only if I looked at exactly the right spot. The angle of view where it wasn't blocked was tiny.

I had to raise the car and look underneath to locate and paint the timing mark on the harmonic balancer. I just couldn't see it from above!

Just now I worked on moving them a bit further out of the way and they seem to be staying out of the way enough to get it timed this time, while I actually push the timing light down into the small gap.
A couple of days ago I cleaned the pointer, but I may need to paint it. I also added white paint to the inside of the timing groove on the balancer which I can see.
It just doesn't seem like I can get the best angle.
