Actually there's two weights, one for each belt, and lock for fast deceleration in any direction. GM and others use same method for many years.
If you clean the lock...
Do Not lube them! Lube can help short term but is worse.
Lube will attract and hold dirt, get on the belt and stain your clothes, and lube can make the belt weaker then the belt would fail in a crash.
