Bought an 88 auto, my first project car that's all my own, the passenger side head light won't go up, has power to and I guess they are internally grounded. Bought two new motors so far both work if plugged into drivers side just not passenger... Help? I'm half tempted at this point to just switch them out with recessed headlight like the 82-92 camaros... Is this a common problem?

No, not really common, but the headlight motors are controlled by a module and you will need to troubleshoot to find out what is happening. Otherwise, the headlight setup is pretty robust.
