I'm wondering what parts are required for a 4 speed auto trans swap. My brother has a 86se with a 3.4pr swap and currently has a 3 speed auto which is going bad. He's wanting to install a 4 speed auto. I know I'll need a transmission and axles but what else. What year transmission is the easiest/best?

Any transmission 85 to 92 should work, some say the later models are best. I can't confirm if later models are best since I used an 85 model out of a Delta 88 (according to the tag it is an 85). For me, the models with the TCC plug with 4 prongs is best, minimal wiring mods.

You need all the brackets to bolt the transmish to the frame and block, need to modify the shift cable bracket on the transmish, an adjustable vacuum modulator. Oh, I almost forgot you need the dipstick. You may need to modify it to fit and add an extra set of slotted holes on the cradle for the rear mount (the one near the trunk)

I did this swap, rebuilt it with Alto clutches, 3.73 gears and Transgo shift kit and reverse fix and a torque converter for a quad 4 engine. It was mated to my Turbo 2.8. Had a lot of fun. I'm recently swapping it with a 4 speed manual.

There's more detailed info on this on the web. Do a Google search.
