transmission will not go into park by crashmydaytona

I was attempting to torque my axle nuts today but could not find park to keep the axles from spinning. What am I missing? it is a 4t65hd car is not running im still in the middle of my swap.

You are in park. One wheel has to be on the ground to lock the other one when in park. Otherwise the diff will allow the other wheel to spin in the opposite direction. You could use a long bar in the wheel studs of the other wheel that hits ground.

Also if needed remember the spare tire has a hole in the middle so you can still reach the axle nut with the tire mounted. Tire bolted on, and a long bar through one of the holes in the spare's rim to keep it from spinning.

Trans lever all the way forward should engage park.This will not lock each axle shaft, only the ring gear. Each axle will still turn in opposite directions unless held by something. Good luck...WWFiero

Thanks for the info guys. I had no idea thats how a auto transmission worked. Thats 30 minutes of screwing with the shifter ill never get back.
