I have a 1985 gt v6 2.8L 4 speed Muncie last year we did a little rebuild/restoration put a new fuel pump, new fuel filter, a 40k 2.8 engine, all new distributor and cap, rotor, plugs, wires, icm, and pick up coil.
I tried to set the timing last year and was having some computer issues so installed a new computer and chip, it was idling high and searching for idle, and when it got warm it would start but still searched for idle.
Then winter came along so she was moved to the garage for the winter and pulled the car out this weekend and now it wont even start.
we figured out we received a 4 cyl fuel pump from the parts store
got the proper fuel pump installed yesterday late at night, tried to start today and nothing, it just cranks.
we maybe thought fuel but we spray ether and now it wont even rumble so we figure now a spark issue.
we took the front 3 spark plugs and we are getting spark for all 3
wondering where to go and what to do
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

As you crank the starter, notice if the tachometer moves up or sits on the peg. If it moves up a bit, your primary ignition components are working. If it sits on the peg, something is still wrong with the ICM, pickup coil, magnet, or the primary side of the ignition coil....or the wiring to all those things.

It moves up, it is not on the peg, i believe it may have to do with timing but i think i should at least get a sputter,
i have done all the correct timing functions i have tried unplugging the MAP and still just cranking?
i am so lost and confused i have spark, fuel and air?

OK, move to the secondary ignition. It's possible that you can see a spark when you check the plugs....but when they are in the engine they don't spark. Do you have a multi-meter? Do the test on the ignition coil.

Are you sure that fuel is getting to the plugs? I changed out a fuel pump last year and I could hear the pump running but the car would not start. It turned out that I had the pump wiring backwards so the pump was pumping in reverse.

Yeah the plugs are coming out wet with gas, and even with starting fluid being quickly sprayed in we aren't even getting a sputter

Doubt its this, but its a simple check..... Take the oil cap off and see if the lifters are moving when someone turns it over.

If the timing chain broke there will be no movement with the lifters.... If the timing chain jumped....?

I doubt its the timing chain, but it's a worth a quick look.

found the problem, one of the back spark plug was cracked, and so we decided to set the timing one more time, cleaned, gapped(a couple plug gaps were huge), and replaced the plugs, and BAM!
she is alive, thank you all sooo much!
