I am replacing the Shift Boot but it will not remain anchored in place. The plastic posts that go into the holes in the shift assembly are a smaller diameter than the holes (the original boot is identical). Thus, the boot comes loose when the shifter is moved. What is used to hold the boot in place? Thanks.

I'm not sure about the factory ones anymore, but I believe there is supposed to be a couple of nuts on the bottom to secure the ring. Rodney Dickman sells a replacement ring if you need one.

The boot is secured with a couple of those sheet metal nuts that make their own threads as you thread them on. You might find some in the help section or Napa?
