so i have my eye on a couple kits for the fiero and if i get one I'm going to want to do a turbo sbc mounted longitudinally... what are my options. i checked prices on a g50... ouch!! i know its a great trans but starting at $4k is ... wow. i can get a 915 trans for around $1000 to $2000 put i heard they dont hold much more then 300hp. any input on this set up?

my hp goals would be (kinda wide) between 450hp to 600hp.

not a dreamer.. have the funds and doing the research before i pull the trigger. thank you for any input.

Have you considered the TH-425 used in Toronados, Eldorados and the GMC motor home? They weren't used with that much power but the stress the transaxle sees is limited by the amount of power transmitted to the road which in turn is limited by the weight on the driven wheels.
Here's a photo of an LT1 installed with such a transaxle:

Are you going to use a kit that will require a stretch frame?
If so, they don`t take a whole lot of horsepower but some people have used the Audi 016 5-speed with a Kennedy adapter.
The 016 has a slave cylinder similar to the Fiero and shifts very similar to the same way.
I happen to have one that I will probably never use if you are interested.
