I have a 1988 with a carbed V6 and 5-speed manual set-up so there is no computer at all. Frankly I am now having problems with the clutch hydraulics and I am getting tired of shifting anyway. So as a crazy thought what about just swapping it out for a good automatic. So what I need is any insight anyone can provide about a non-computer controlled automatic transmission would be very helpful. For example:
1. Which transmission would work the best for my application 2. What would be all involved with switching to automatic, parts wise
I Suggest the 4t60 or 4t65hd trans they are strong reliable and have better gear ratios than the stock Fiero th125 and will work great with your application, I plan on running the 4t65hd after I carb my 2.5. Swap parts I know you will need are : Axles, auto shift cable, auto shifter assembly and other misc odds and ends. If you go with the 4t60/65 you need a shifter bracket adapter which you can make for purchase from ZZP
