Got a broken alternator belt on my 84 SE .... Is there an easy way to replace it, or should this be left to a Pro. ... Looks like it would have to be done from underneath ?
You change it from the top. Loosen the two bolts on the alternator, slide the alternator towards the front of the car, put the new belt on the crank, water pump and alternator pulleys and use a long screwdriver or other suitable tool between the alternator and the bracket to move the alternator back enough to get the belt tight. Then tighten the two alternator bolts.
