since everyone here has more experience give me advice please. I have a lambo replica based on a 87 2.5 iron duke I got 2000 bucks or more . the engine overheated went to 293 F now speed max is 65 but slow to get there. I am burning oil cause white smoke is coming out now and lifters tapping a little now more than before. I don't mind having a 2.5 again it has great fuel economy and ok power im not a speed freak. I built the whole car myself. buy a rebuilt engine? upgrade to 2.8? its automatic bty. get the engine rebuilt by mechanic? how easy is it to rebuild myself where is the thread for this? how easy is the conversion to 2.8? where is that thread? i don't trust the mecanics here they are idiots
Any engine swap has issues with wiring and computers. Unless you have time and some expertise you could rebuild the engine, if it hasn't been wrecked. Me, I had a new crate engine installed by a qualified mechanic, but you would need to find a qualified, reliable in the area.
White smoke isn't oil, it's coolant. If you overheated that much, you almost certainly blew the gasket, and may have cracked the head. That's why it is running so poorly.
It's not terribly hard to rebuild the engine. If you've cracked the head or block though, you're probably going to have to find another to replace it with. It shouldn't be too hard to find a 2.5L engine in the yard though, as it was used in many GM vehicles of the era.

Find a 2.8 Fiero that runs great and swap all the 2.8 components into your car. No need to wire anything special yourself. You will have been able to drive the engine/transmission so you will know what you are getting.
Doesn't get any Easier than this, a "Direct, Complete, Swap". 4 bolts and 3 plugs ! Hope that helps. I agree, you probably have (at least) a blown head gasket.

There's a lot more to it than that.
Fuel lines are routed different, throttle cable, tachometer, fuel pump/sender, etc. I know you're after a quick sale of your hardware, but you'll have to include the above mentioned parts (and more) for it to be as simple as you claim.
Sorry, forgot about the fuel Lines and pump being different. Not looking for a "quick sale", really don't care if it sells or not. just trying to help.
decesions man I hate these they all sound good might just buy another fiero with same engine do it myself and have an exrtra cradle for a new bigger engine.
