Ground outside, hot center, but what goes in the torpedo-looking attachment? I've got a third, empty wire that plugs into it, needs a bulb. What bulb plugs into it so I can get that and a new lighter?

I would recommend leaving the bulb out. If you're driving, you can feel for the location. If you're not driving, you can look down to find it. It does little to aid in seeing the lighter socket and it generates enough heat that it causes the soft vinyl above the lighter trim plate to turn loose and buckle. Same goes for the little ash tray bulbs.

You can get around this by replacing it with an LED, no heat.

The way this socket is made and location are headaches.
1. Light house is a very small hole and light output is blocked on most socket.
2. When does work, can make glare problem reflect on windshield. Many find this bulb is annoying at best.
