Is anyone familiar with what Pontiac did to resolve the recall on the emergency brake cone clutch? My 86 GT never had the recall taken care of and Pontiac Customer Service cannot find any information about it. Were there any parts replaced? If so, are the parts still available? What was done? Thanks for any help that anyone can give me, it is appreciated as always.

Found this. I included the Fram fuel filter, too because it's important. Should have been corrected by now, but some are still reporting fuel leaks.

Edited to replace dead links.

SUMMARY:

Notice the solution was to change the spring rate (stronger spring) and corrosion resistance (added or changed to a better seal to keep out the elements?)

It would probably be resolved by replacing the calipers with a new or rebuilt set. I don't think a rebuild kit would come with springs.

Doc available thru www.michiganfieroclub.com/Tech_Tips.html
Is another/older version of GM 86-C-28, Fiero 84-86, Subject: Brakes, Handbrake Problem, Manual Transmission.

In a Nutshell
Old GM way... They replace rear pistons. GM parts are not available.
GM or DIY now... Replace whole rear caliper w/ rebuilt and hope got good units.

Read text at http://www.fieronews.net/fusion/downloads.php

Recall covers only stick cars but all cars (Not just Fiero) w/ same piston design have same problems. Firebird, 6000, and others including Seville rear calipers that many use to "upgrade" Fiero brakes.
