Stock 87 GT. One quart every 600-700 miles! What is going on!? I just past SMOG with flying colors. Engine is not smoking (even at start-up). I went around the engine with a good flashlight...no leaks (little seepage around the oil pan but no drips). Only two possibilities that I can think of...Burn it, or leak it!

I pulled all 6 spark plugs, they have a normal tan color to them with no build-up. Valve guides replaced about 25k ago.

Im using regular 5-30 oil, not synthetic. Where is it going?

Maybe you've got a neighbor siphoning your oil?

Mine burns a quart every 1500 miles.

Look on the bright side, at least it's a continuous oil change!

I don't think it is that bad, bet switching to 10-40 woul get you to about a quart in 1,500 miles. If it runs good I would buy a case of oil for a Chirstmas present for it and be happy. Larry

I always try to use NAPA full synthetic 15W-50...reduces oil consumption to darn near zero in my Duke with 150,000 miles.

Seems like 5W-30 just goes right through it.

It's just strange to me that it went from almost no loss at 2-3k miles to this. I wonder if my PCV isn't working right.
