I have an 85 Fiero SE, Red, with saddle-colored cloth interior (dark brown/beige). The darker brown side of the seat has a worn spot. The local upholstery company said they could sew it in IF I could find matching material. Any one out there know of a source to try? Thanks.
I think your best bet would be to buy an old Fiero seat cover in the Mall. Even if you could find the fabric, it would not be faded and would look different. If you have 2 seat covers, each with different problems, an upholstery shop can turn them into one good cover.
Can you use the fabric from the back of the seats? I purchased a set of seat covers from Mr. Mike's (excellent) and when I took the old covers off, I noticed that the seat backs were in great shape. I salvaged these pieces and use them to recover the center console around the shifter.
Seek out a different upholstery shop. It's been my experience that any decent auto upholstery shop will either have on hand, or be able to get an exact or very very close match just by seeing a seat or door panel fabric.

good luck.
- Jimmy This is a great idea, if I can't find some material. Someone else offered up SMS Auto Fabrics. Anyone heard of them?
I got a pair of seats with a parts car that the PO paid to have patched. They used the same color of the same material, but with fading, the replaced sections stuck out like a sore thumb. There's also a lot of piping, that's likely cracked over the years, and would need to be retained and/or replaced. They just left it out on these seats, and it looks even worse. PO was pretty upset with how much money he spent on seats that still looked lousy in the end. My recommendation would be to buy Mr. Mikes if you can afford them, or look for some decent used ones. They are still out there.
I got some samples today in the mail from SMS Auto Fabrics. They say this material is an exact match to what my Fiero has. I took them out to compare, and it WAS! This Fiero doesn't have a sunroof, and the windows have always been tinted. So, maybe the material didn't fade. It's an 85 I've had since new. I'll order the material, and report back after the seat is done.

I wonder if they have INDY seat fabric. Their website doesn't allow you to search, so they must spend a lot of time researching requests and sending out samples.
