I need a part # for 1997 3800sc Main Cap "Bolts". Someone had listed them a few weeks ago (2450-3056), I ordered them by the part # they gave, received them, Not even close. They look more like Head bolts. (too long, different size heads) any help appreciated. Thanks

Lou, have you looked at the ARP catalog? They show a set of main bearing cap studs for the 3800SC engine.

I'm not doing Studs because I don't want have to get it align bored. besides, $8 is a lot better than $108. The mains in a 3800 are bulletproof, studs are a waste as far as I'm concerned. (maybe in a different engine.)

OK, this is the kind of thing that "Keeps me awake"(it's 1 am). The bolts I removed (factory) have 13mm heads, the bolts I got have 15 mm heads. The new Bolts are 3/4" LONGER than the originals, BUT, I went out and "measured" the" Depth" of the bolt holes, and they Are deep enough to get the bolts in ! This # bolt must be a 2nd design or something. AM I risking anything by using these bolts (Being so much longer ) ??
Fieroaddicted, Did you reuse you main bolts ? Or did you use these longer ones?? Or find originals ??

Hi,

Maybe I am missing something but the link description mentions L27 but no other type that I saw; even though applications go out to 1999?

Go to the right hand screen... down to 138. BOLT. Engine Main Bearing Cap.
ENGINE ASM-3.8L V6 PART 1 CYLINDER BLOCK AND RELATED PARTS
(L67/3.8-1); L67 - ENGINE GAS,3.8L(3.8-1),SFI,V6,SUPERCHARGED;
Scroll down on the left to the diagram of the L27 and it has the same part for the bearing cap as 24503056

Just trying to make sure that the "Extra" 3/4" of bolt isn't going somewhere where it can do any damage.

just checked the gm catalog 2450-3056 is for vertical bolt, used from 1997-2003, as of my last update disk (1 week ago), 24505576 is for horizontal bolt. According to GM dealer world, there is no history of a part# change, and no enginering notes about 1st or 2nd designs. dimensions should be 7/16 x 14x 3.6 This is all through gm catalog info here at work, hope this helps.

says 54 lbs, then 105 degrees in Chiltons(Big book), Torquespec.com says 30 lbs then 110 degrees. that's an awful big difference

I see it, thanks!

Maybe run a bottoming tap into those bolt holes to clean the previously unused threads for the longer bolts?

BR's,

Mark

Guys,
For the record, I am not trying to do the "I told you so" or anything like that. I just want to make sure I have posted the right part numbers!

So, Dan (bonaduce), you have confirmed the Main Bearing and cross bolts. Could you check the others and add the GM Head bolt part number?

Main Bolts - 24503056
Main Cross Bolts - 24505576
Rod Bolts - 25531956
Rocker Arm Bolts - 24503515
Fel-Pro Head bolts - ES74033

Thanks,
-Robert
