Is there a paint code for GM chassis black? as there are so many variations of satin, matte, etc. black and would like to know before ordering a gallon .... To be clear the black I am looking for would be for frame suspension firewall door jams etc.

Thanks in advance for your help

Im sure there are different blacks on all the different components, although some may be the same too. I know on Corvette restorations I did there was no less than 5 different blacks used on different chassis and underhood parts. The manufacturers were never smart enough to use just one black and be done with it.

Satin, semi-flat, semi-gloss are all pretty much the same. On suspension parts, I always sandblast, prime with PPG epoxy primer, & paint with semi-flat black urethane. On the spaceframe, if everything is smooth you only need to sand it well, & you don't HAVE to prime it - but I prime with the epoxy as it gives maximum adhesion.
Manufacturers just use whatever paint they can get the cheapest at the time...
