Can anyone provide tips on how to determine if a noise coming from the passenger side rear wheel area is bearing or CV related. I am getting a rythmic speed related thump after the car has sat for a week or so. This noise becomes almost non-existant after being driven for a while. Noise does recurr when reversing and in some instances when cornering - it has been a while since I tried it but I think the cornering noise was when making a left turn (centrifical force puts more weight on the right wheels). Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. Car is an 86 2M6 SE 2.8L 4 speed standard.

Jack up the right rear, push/pull the top/bottom of the wheel and see if you have any movement. There should be little to no movement. Not sure about how to check the CV joint other than by grabbing the axle shaft and pushing it up/down. Wouldn't expect much movement from there either.
