my buddy is buying my parts fiero 86 2m4 from me since i took the motor for mine and he wants to take the motor out of his s10 2.2 that he put a turbo and got some work done to it to hold some boost and he will be using the wiring harness from the s10 to run the motor and run aftermarket gauges. so what we want to know if anyone has put the non eco tec in it and what they had to do to make it work

In a fwd application, the fluid runs through the head in the opposite direction than in the S10. To do this you have to swap the coolant outlets and water pump from a FWD engine onto yours. There also is a freeze plug that needs to be inserted into the head where you removed the coolant outlet. You also need to swap your exhaust manifold. It is just some bolting and gaskets so it is not too difficult.

The truck harness would of course need to be reworked to make it work in the Fiero. Using aftermarket gauges does not make the swap easier.

Depending on the year, FWD and RWD have different head gaskets with different sized openings to change the dynamic of coolant flow. They all standardized around 2001 or so. You may have to do a quick head gasket to prevent the head from developing hot spots once you change the coolant flow routing.

There are a couple members on here that have done 2200 SFI / 2.2 swaps. The one that comes to mind has a 2200 Fiero as well as a Quad 4 Fiero. I can't remember his name on here.

+1 on that. I put an 2.2 S10 head gasket on backwards once and the cooling system 'percolated". The water didn't flow through the head, but instead was a pocket open only on one end. Since the percolation started after installing the rebuilt head, I had figured it was the rebuilt head, well until I got it off and noticed the marking on the head gasket.

btw, yes I also did swap a 2.2 Caviler engine into one of the S10s.

I'm just wondering if anyone might know of a build thread or something for that 2.2 swap. I have a remanufactured 2.2 that I just bought to get my '01 S-10 running before my old ('91)S-10 quit. I'm already starting to think about swapping a 4.3 into the truck, but I won't just throw the 2.2 away. So if I can put the 2.2 into one of these cars, that'll be my excuse! And since the 2.2 makes about 25 more ponies than the stock 4 banger, it's obviously an upgrade! Pretty sure it's lighter too, what with the aluminum head and all.
