I have a stock 86 se 2.8 v6. I'm getting ready to do a complete tune up on my car. I was thinking of a msd blaster coil and msd cap and rotor and new taylor plug wires 10.4 mm over a stock coil, cap, rotor and 8mm plug wires. I would like to hear what you engine guru's think . I want to thank you for your time and your comments. Thank's luckymidget43
All sounds good to me, don't forget spark plugs, and replacing the pickup coil at the same time is a good idea; cleaning up the distributor and putting new heat sink compound on the bottom of the ignition control module would be a good overhaul of the ignition system.
You’re much better off with stock ignition parts at least as the specs go. MDS makes a great coil for stock applications and if you can find good high quality cap and rotor that’s great but the ECM has certain known parameters like heat and duration of the of the flame front and when you change things like the coils heat range and firing duration it affects the burn and the ECM doesn’t know. I spent a lot of time in the mid 80’s replacing aftermarket plugs in fuel injected cars because “it just doesn’t feel right” complaints. By the way, plugs are probably the most important component so AC Delco’s is the best way to go.
