I have a 4.9 that is slow to start when hot
Was told today at Fiero club meeting that I should use an Allante starter but forgot to ask what year

Can any body help with the year that works?

91/92 will work great, I think 93 is N* so no-go there. The Allante starter is a drastic improvement, enjoy.!

My starter was for a 91, but any year 4.5 Allante should work.

Go to www.rockauto.com
Use their automated catalog. Find Cadillac / 1991 / Allante / Electrical / Starter Motor.
They have several choices. You can click on the image to see what it looks like. Way different from the stock 4.9.

I also read someplace that you could use the newer gear reduction starter from the 3800 series 2 on a 4.9 as well. Haven't tried this yet, but If my rusty 4.9 starter ever dies, I'll try it.

Also make sure your battery is of correct size....I had a 88 GMC that was hard to start once it got hot. Figured it was the starter being it dragged when trying to start hot or did nothing so I changed it out. The issue got better but only stayed that way for about 2 weeks then back to the same issues. Shortly after I sold the truck to my buddy who saw the battery was to small for the truck and bought the correct size. Has not had an issue yet with the correct size battery...
