When you time the V6 to 10 degrees with ECM in diagnostic mode, should the computer advance the timing more after it is reconnected? I have a 3.4 PR swap and the computer is advancing the timing quite a bit. I have had to back the initial timing down to keep the engine from pinging.

For sure.

Is there a
functional EGR?

The EGR appears to be in very good condition but I don't know if the EGR solenoid is. How can I test them both? Sometimes the engine runs great and other times it stumbles. More so when it is up to temperature. I have retarded the initial timing to 8 degrees but the computer advances it to what looks like 14 degrees.
